Last Saturday, the Douglas College Royals men's and women's basketball hosted the Capilano University Blues in a rematch from Friday nights road tilt which saw the women fall 68-55 and the men snatch a victory 76-70, playing spoilers to the Blues home crowd.

Saturday nights affair would eventually end in the same result for the women, falling short 57-54. On the men's side, a combined 41 points from guards Courtney Anderson and Josiah Mastandrea (who had a season high 20 points) helped the men defeat Capilano 86-71 to take their 10^th win of the season.

The first half of the women's game was a back and forth affair until a 10-2 Royals run in the second quarter helped Douglas come out of the half with a 27-24 lead.

However, the Blues came back with a run of their own in the third quarter, as a 14-2 run in the last four minutes of the quarter helped the Blues lead by eight at the end of the 3^rd.

The Blues momentum carried into the fourth quarter as Capilano led by as much as 9 with under seven minutes to go.

Although Royals guard Sydney Fraess scored 9 of Douglas's 13 points in the 4^th to help cut the Blues lead to three late in the quarter, multiple Douglas mishaps unfortunately prevented Douglas from tying things up and Royals ended up losing their 6^th game of the season.

"I was really proud of the girls today, I thought they left it all on the court, it seems as if the rims won today because of all the opportunities we'd missed to get easy buckets" said Royals women's head coach Steve Beauchamp.

The men on the other hand took control of the game from the opening tip as an 8-2 Douglas run early in the first helped the Royals lead by 15 heading into the second.

Royals guard Courtney Anderson's 9 points in the second quarter helped the Royals expand their lead to 22 at the half.

The Blues did end up outscoring the Royals by seven in the second half, but the Royals spectacular performance in the first 20 minutes of the game ended up being too much for Capilano to come back from.

Both the men and women remain in the same spot on the PACWEST conference standings as the women remain in the 4^th seed and the men continue to stay atop of the PACWEST conference.

The Royals next home game will be this Friday when they play the Columbia Bible College Bearcats.
