Swamping the Shoreline

Swamping the Shoreline

After a strong weekend showing against Everett last week, the Royals softball team was ready to prove to the league once again that the ladies from the North were a team to watch out for. They came into the weekend riding a four game win streak and were undefeated on the season so far. Waiting for them was Shoreline Community College.

Pitching game one against Shoreline Community College was Keeley Ainge. She kept the Royals in it when it was tight, striking out two pitchers and only allowing two runs in six innings. Offensively, the Royals went off. Natasha Bedard was huge on the plate, batting 3 hits in 4 at bats and bringing in four RBI. Laura Baldry had two RBI, and Daniella Vilio had three hits and two RBI. Rachel Warburton had two hits and two runs, and Michaela Moore also had two runs of her own. The final score of game one saw the Royals take it 10-2 in six innings.

Game two was a tight one to start. Shoreline Community College took the early lead, going up two runs on Royals pitcher Kira Staley, in the second. The Royals would fight back though, scoring a run in the third before taking the lead in the fourth. Shoreline would fill the bases in the fifth, prompting a pitching change from the Royals which saw Jesse Goddard make her first appearance of the season. Goddard held the line, only allowing two runs, one of which was charged to Staley.

The tag team would allow four runs on the night, and give the Royals the chance to win it. And they really did. It was practically hitting practice for the Royals, and they put up 17 hits on the game. Daniella Vilio and Rachel Warburton had three hits and two RBI. Michaela Moore had three hits.  But it was Kim Anderson with the huge night. Three hits and three RBI was her score line.

On the bases, the team was deadly as well. In total they had five stolen bases. FIVE. Daniella Vilio, Jewel Gingras, and Jordan Britten-Yung all had base steals. But it was Rachel Warburton who came up big with two steals to highlight her night. The Royals would go on to win 12-4 in six innings. The win pushes the Royals to 6-0 on the season and extends their win streak to 6.

Next up for the Royals is Olympic College. The two play each other on Tuesday. Olympic is currently 2-6 on the season and will be looking to bounce back when the Royals visit them.
