Royals have their sights set on PACWEST Gold

This week the Royals men's and women's volleyball teams are set to compete in the 2019-20 PACWEST Volleyball Provincial tournament, hosted by Douglas College.

Heading into the tournament, the men secured the 1st seed after a 3-1 win over the Capilano University Blues Saturday night combined with a little help from Camouson who took down a close runner up in VIU Friday night.

"We're ready and excited, we know who we are, what we want to do, our strengths, and we're just really excited to get after it in our home barn." Said Royals Men's head coach Jay Tremonti when asked about the team's thought process going into the tournament.

Meanwhile the Women locked in the 3rd seed in the tournament a week prior to last weeks matchups against the Blues, as a Royals 5-game winning streak combined with runner up UFV's loss to College of the Rockies on February 8th helped the women secure their spot in the tournament.

"I think the girls are feeling good, at this point in the season it's about playing together, enjoying the moment. I think we've made strides this season and the major keys heading into the tournament are to be confident and enjoy the moment." Said Royals women's head coach Jeff Ross when asked about his thoughts on the upcoming tournament.

The tournament will kick off this Thursday as men's and women's quarter-final matchups will take place starting at 12:30pm.

The Royals men's team will not participate on Thursday as securing the 1st seeds rewards them a bye in the quarter final round.

The Royals women's team on the other hand will compete against a familiar foe Thursday afternoon as they play the Capilano University Blues at 5:30pm.

Douglas heads into Thursday's playoff game having won 3 out of the 4 regular season matchups.

The semi-finals will then proceed on following night as the men's team will face off against the winner of the Chargers vs Avalanche quarter final matchup. And if the women can get by Capilano on Thursday they will take on the #2 seed Camouson Chargers.

The tournament will then conclude on Saturday with the Bronze medal matchups taking place in the afternoon and the gold medal matchups later that night.
