Coming fresh off their 3-0 victory against Langara College on Saturday, the Douglas College Royals women's soccer team looked to continue their winning ways this season against the Capilano University Blues to stay atop of the PAC-WEST standings and improve their undefeated streak to 5-0-1.

This was not going to be an easy task however, as Capilano University had come off of a very close 1-0 loss against the second seed Vancouver Island University and were looking to climb their way back up the standings.

The game got off to a very quick start as first year forward Taylor Spong netted home her third goal of the season just thirty-seven seconds into the match, giving the Royals a boost in momentum to start the game.

That momentum continued to flow as 5th year veteran Alyssa Lum also scored her third goal of the season, this time coming inside the twenty-four-minute mark of the match.

The Royals started off the half very strong but as time got on the Blues began to step it up a notch and the match became a very back and forth contest for the rest of the half, with the defence on both teams playing up to par.

As the second half commenced, the Blues began to press the Royals offensively with 18 of their 26 shots coming in that half. However, first year goalie Elisha Machado had brought her A-game to the pitch and ended up saving fourteen of Capilano's fifteen shots on goal, finishing the game with a 0.933 save percentage.

Capilano did ultimately get on the score sheet, second year player Claire Ye scored her second goal of the season in the sixty-eighth minute, but that would be the tightest Capilano would get in getting the victory as second year player Mikaela Montagano scored her second goal of the season, two minutes into extra time, sealing the Royals 3-1 victory over the Blues

After the match, when asked about how he felt about his teams performance, Royals Head Coach Chris Laxton said, "I felt much better after the first half, I thought we played the game perfectly but in the second half we knew what they were going to bring, so we fought and clawed, and managed to seal the game late. Overall, I'm happy with how our weekend went."

The Royals currently remain first in the PAC-WEST conference with 16 points, but not too far behind them is Vancouver Island University with 14.

The two teams will go head to head this Saturday at VIU.
