The Douglas College Royals men's and women's soccer team rolled into Nanaimo this past weekend to take on the VIU Mariners in back to back games for what each team hoped would be an additional six points added to their spot on the standings.

Heading into Saturday, the women's team looked to continue their undefeated streak and avenge their only draw of the season against VIU, while the men's team viewed this weekend as a way to redeem themselves following a disappointing loss to Capilano the week prior.

Unfortunately, things did not get off to the start that the Royals were looking for as the men's team lost to a late goal, and the women drew 1-1 to VIU, giving them their second draw of the season.

Sunday, the Mariners offense proved too strong for the Royals, snapping their undefeated streak in a 3-0 loss. The same cannot be said for the men however as an 85' goal by first year player Milan Gandesha sealed the 2-0 victory for the men giving them their third win of the season.

The women's team now falls to second place in the PACWEST conference only one point behind VIU, while the men's team sit in third place four points behind VIU for first.

Both squads will play the Capilano University Blues this weekend with Sunday's home game at Cunnings field, Coquitlam Town Centre.
