The Royals had looked poised for a return to the CCAA National Championships, where two years prior, they had earned a silver medal finish. On the heels of an 8-2 regular season record and an 8-0 drubbing of the Langara Falcons in the final regular season game, the Royals hopes were clipped by those same Falcons in a thrilling PACWEST Championship semi-final rematch that ended in penalty kicks.
