Royals Running Rampant

Royals Running Rampant

The Royals vs. Blues matchup has become a quick rivalry for both squads. The Royals knocked the Blues out of the PACWEST Championships last year, but the Blues got the better of the Royals in their first meeting. With the recent series tied, both sides were looking for a statement victory.

The Royals started the game on the back foot, having to fend off several Capilano attacking runs. But the Royals would strike first blood. A strong run by captain Sam Kell saw her clear her defender and send the ball to the feet of a wide open Sonali Dholliwar. Dholliwar, with a great look at the net, roofed the balled into the top right corner for the first goal of the game.

10 minutes later, after subbing on for Madison Hendry, Sneha Sandhu found herself on the end of an excellent through pass from Mikayla Hamilton. She tapped in her first of her career, and just like that it was 2-0 Royals. But Capilano wouldn't be held back so easily. Claire Ye would get one back for the Blues off an excellent shot in the 38th minute.

After a strong half, and a nice rest at halftime, the Royals came back on the pitch ready to close out the game. However where most teams park the bus, the Royals like to go and ensure the win. Five minutes into the second half, Martina Pettenon would tuck in the insurance goal for the Royals.

With no intentions of stopping, the Royals pressed the attack. Mikayla Hamilton would find a gap in the defense at the 70th minute, and tucked home the eventual game winner. In total, the Royals would have 9 shots in the second half of the match. Their pressure heavy style of play would earn them their fourth win of the season in a big way. 4-1 Royals over Capilano Blues.

Next week, they face the Langara Falcons in a Thanksgiving doubleheader. The Royals play at 1 pm on Saturday at Cunnings Field. Come out and support your Royals!
