The Douglas Royals are headed to their third straight PACWEST gold medal game after a 2-1 victory over the VIU Mariners in the semi-final on Friday night.

Both teams had some chances and exciting plays early on but didn't have much to show for it as Alexa Gazzola and Zoe Grace each made two saves.

Then in the 47th minute Michelle Wessa opened the scoring for the Royals.

They would then add to their lead in the 63rd minute when PACWEST Player of the Year Mikayla Hamilton found the back of the net.

From there the Royals were on cruise control and just a few minutes away from a shutout when the Mariners cut the lead in half in the 90th minute on a goal from Maddy Dawson, but it was too little too late. With the win the Royals get a bit of payback after losing last year's gold medal game to the Mariners.

Hamilton was named the Player of the Game.

The Royals will now meet the Capilano Blues on Saturday night at 7:00pm for the PACWEST gold medal game while the Mariners will face the Langara Falcons for bronze at 4:00pm.
