Nisha Samra selected for FACP Program

Recent 5th year women's soccer alumna, Nisha Samra, has been selected to participate in the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association Female Apprentice Program. A member of the 2016 CCAA National Championship Bronze medal team and two PACWEST Conference Championship Gold medal teams in 2015 & 2017, Samra will make the transition from athlete to coach on the men's soccer sidelines, guided by coach Toor.

"Having Nisha involved as a member of the coaching staff of the men's soccer program provides a rare opportunity to role model female leadership in sport. It serves as a testament that the ability lead and coach transcends societal norms and mental models of gender." Said Toor.

Nisha is currently completing her Criminology degree with a minor in Psychology. In addition to her academic studies, she currently works as Behavioural Interventionist working with children with Autism, behavioural, cognitive and social skills.

"My job has not only taught me to be patient, but how to work with kids who think and process things differently than others, which will assist me in communicating with different types of people." Said Samra. "It also reminds me of why I want to coach, which is to help others improve on their development not only on the field, but off the field as well."

Nisha joins Cambria Janes, who will enter into her second year of the program. Janes is the women's volleyball apprentice coach, guided by Jeff Ross.
