Royals Golf swing into season

The Douglas College Men's Golf team posted their best result in recent memory this past weekend at the PACWEST VIU Invitational, finishing second, just two strokes shy of a first-place finish to Camosun College. Fifth year golfer, Travis LeClair lead the team, shooting a two-day total of 147, good for 1st place overall in the individual standings. Close behind was 5th year veteran teammate, Josh Legge, whose two-day total of 153 secured him a top three finish.

LeClair shot nearly identical rounds on Saturday (73) and Sunday (74), opening the tournament with a 4-shot lead after the first day. A consistent effort from the senior ensured that his cumulative score would hold up against a tournament-best 71 shot on Sunday by chasing Camosun College golfer, Alex Cordero. LeClari would best Cordero by 1 stroke when all was said and done.

Good efforts from LeClair, Legge, Andy Linn, and Colton Hartman, had the Royals positioned well heading into the second day, carrying a 10-shot lead. Unfortunately, that cushion quickly disappeared as the Chargers shot a tournament best 305 cumulative on Sunday, placing the Royals squarely in second place.

The Royals head to Camosun College next weekend for the second of two invitational tournaments before competing in the PACWEST Championships hosted by Douglas College September 27-29th at University Golf Club.
