The DC Royals baseball team received some timely hitting and solid pitching on the mound en route to a weekend sweep over Olympic.
Game 1 on Saturday saw Douglas ace Kyle Stubbins dominate Olympic, going four innings surrendering just three hits while striking out four in a 5-1 win. Reliever Wyatt Versluis came in and tossed five outstanding innings giving up just one run while striking out six Olympic batters. Offensively, Douglas roughed up Olympic pitching for 15 hits. The Royals had five different hitters with at least two hits, led by right fielder Jay Kim who went 3 for 4 with two RBI's.
In game 2, Barry Caine would toss seven lights out innings giving up just three runs while striking out nine as Douglas came away with a 7-3 victory. It was another impressive offensive performance at the plate for the Royals who banged out 11 hits led by DH Tom Melenchuk who went 3 for 4 with two RBI's. Outfielder Andrew Evernden also went 2 for 4 with a solo homer, his second long ball of the year.
Game 3 on Sunday would bring the Royals back home to Whalley stadium. Another 11 hit performance by the Royals propelled them to a 6-3 win. Jake MacDonald, Jay Kim, and Matt Reyes all had two hits apiece. On the mound, Liam Mitchell threw 7.2 innings, giving up two earned runs while striking out eight. Colin Nazarchuk got the win in relief for Douglas.
Game 4 saw the Royals make five errors in the field. Despite the sloppy defense, Douglas still managed to complete the four-game sweep with a 9-8 win. Colton Tuka had a solid outing on the mound going six innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out an impressive 10 hitters. Keegan Kwong tossed two scoreless innings to get the win on the mound. Offensively, third basemen Matteo Porcellato went 3 for 5 at the dish and Jake MacDonald also went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBI's.
Douglas will take on the Shoreline Dolphins this weekend in a four game set, their last series of the year. They also have a doubleheader to make up with division leaders Edmonds College, leaving them with six games left before playoffs.
