Royal Gold Rush

Following the women's lead the Douglas Royals men's team won PACWEST gold on Sunday with a dominating 3-0 win over the host Quest Kermodes. It's their first gold since 2014.

The Royals got on the board in the 34th minute when a Kermodes player knocked the ball into his own net past keeper Sam MacDonald. The game stayed that way until the 60th minute when Edris Najm extended the Royals lead and at that point seemed to put the game out of reach. In the 87th minute Tetsuya Yoshinaga added the final nail with his first goal of the championship.

Defensively the Royals were a solid brick wall as keeper Ryo Mizuno wasn't required to make a save and earned the shutout. MacDonald made 10 saves in the defeat.

Sophomore Race Williams was named the Player of the Game.

The Royals are now off to the CCAA National championship hosted at VIU beginning on November 8th. It's the fifth time in PACWEST history that both the men's and women's team from one school captured soccer gold.

Following the game the PACWEST announced the championship All-Stars and MVP:

Sam MacDonald – Quest Kermodes (top goalkeeper)
Ahmed Kamal – Quest Kermodes (top midfielder)
Nicolas Morello – Capilano Blues (top defender)
