Semifinal #1: NAIT defeated Douglas 2-1
In the battle of conference champions, it was the NAIT Ooks that came out on top as they beat the Douglas Royals 2-1 to advanced to the 2015 CCAA women’s soccer championship gold medal game.
This marks the second straight year NAIT has advanced to the national finals, as they won silver in 2014 finals in Medicine Hat, Alta.
Tied 1-1 at halftime, Kassy Jajczay scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute, sneaking the ball through the Douglas defence and into the back of the net.
In the final minutes of regulation, NAIT goalkeeper Kailey Harder came up with big back-to-back saves to preserve the victory.
The two goals in the first half were made for the highlight reel with a pair of CCAA All-Canadians getting on the scoresheet. Kayla Michaels scored the opening for NAIT in the 30th minute that was followed up by a Marni McMillan free kick in injury time.
McMillan (Douglas) and Harder (NAIT) were named the players of the game.
