Bronze Medal Semifinal #1: Douglas defeated Algonquin 3-2 (4-2 in penalty kicks)
The Douglas Royals pulled out a dramatic win in penalty kicks over the Algonquin Thunder to advance to the bronze medal game of the 2015 CCAA women’s soccer national championship.
Trailing 2-1 in injury time, CCAA All-Canadian Marni McMillan showed why she is one of the top players in the country as she tied the game up at 2-2 to send the game to penalty kicks.
In PK’s Douglas rode the wave of momentum and won by a score of 4-2.
This marks the second game at the national championship that Algonquin has lost in penalty kicks, dropping their quarter-final match to Ahuntsic.
McMillan and Andrea Perrotta were the goal scorers for Douglas. Jenna Baldree and Kandyce Whitehead scored two first half goals for the Thunder.
The four-day championship is hosted by Fleming College in Peterborough, Ont. at the Fleming Sports Complex.
Michelle Wessa (Douglas) and Jenna Baldree (Algonquin) were named players of the game.
