Royals Strike Gold For First Time
The Douglas College Royals women's soccer team won gold and are off to the Nationals
For the first time ever the Douglas College Royals, women's soccer team are PACWEST gold medalists after a 2-0 victory over the defending champions VIU Mariners.
The Royals commanded the game from the opening kick-off with the majority of play in the mid third of the field to the Mariners third of the field.
In the 26th minute on a beautiful pass from the PACWEST Player of the Game Marni McMillan, Danae Harding opened the scoring with a beauty . The goal turned out to be the winning goal.
In the second half the Royals continued to press the Mariners, before Mikayla Hamilton scored the insurance goal in the 66th minute.
Marni was named the Player of the Game.
The Royals will now head to the national championship tournament in Peterborough Ontario from November 11-18.

Top keeper - Emily Rowbotham of VIU
Top defender - Samantha Rogers of VIU
Top Midfielder - Nicole Fraser of Douglas
Top Forward - Gabriella Villasenor of Quest
Tournament MVP - Danae Harding of Douglas.
